Shared PD : ATM/MDLP, UStream, WizIQ or other

Let's see what kind of interest there is in sharing after-school PD sessions via the ATM/MDLP or UStream or other synchronous distance learning methods. I'd love to connect with some folks to team-teach a session - and let the teachers participating get a taste of the distance learning possibilities while they learn about a tool or technique. OR, if your district isn't doing pd and you just want to get access to something someone else is teaching, here's your chance! When we get a few folks that are interested we can start a google doc or share a google calendar to set up who is teaching what when, via which media. I'd bet there will be something going on every day (M-Th!) after school somewhere in the state that could be shared. Who's interested?

OK! I have three dates and topics for PD that I plan to do over the ATM/MDLP network. IF for some reason I have too many local folks to fit in that room, I'll do it over ustream, but I doubt that will be an issue.

Thursday, October 2, 3:00 - 4:00 (4:30 for extra questions/time as needed)
Digital Cameras in the Classroom
- Use a digital camera for documentation, assessment, student reflection, creation of content, and to increase student engagement. Students with access to digital cameras can document their own learning for later reflection in Noteshare or on an interactive Voicethread. Photograph final projects, or works in progress to show the students’ process. Create web-quality short videos as assessment for foreign language, physical education, physics or debate. Bring your own camera if you have one! IDEAS for use in the classroom will be stressed, rather than lots of techie camera functions.

Thursday November 6 : 3:00 - 4:00 (4:30 for questions/discussion)
MOODLE
: basic introduction to the Moodle course management system, discussion of how to use it with your classes. I would LOVE to have those who have used it or are using it join in - I'm just getting going and am trying to get others in my district interested. Any takers for team-teaching?

Thursday, December 4 : 3:00 - 4:00 (4:30 for questions/practice)
Digital Image Editing
– You have pictures - now what? We’ll cover the very basics in iPhoto, look at Gimp, and explore online image editing options that are not platform dependent so you can use macs or pc.

Who thinks they may want to try offering these sessions to their teachers?
Who has sessions they might want to offer on other days?

Hi Sarah -
Let me know if you need any help with wikis. I am a pbwiki certified educator after this past summer's pbwiki summer camp.

I'll let you know about other pd as it develops.

I am up for anything. I wish I could have made the last one you did Sarah. I will be there for the Moodle one though. I am thinking it may also help to have a place for screencasts. Maybe a wiki to order it all. What do you think?

Video Online Streaming

You too can create your own online video broadcast!  UStream was developed in March 2007 as a web site that allows live casting and live video streams for anyone and any purpose.  All you need is a computer, Internet connection, and webcam to use UStream.  During the 2008 U. S. Presidential elections politicians used UStream to reach a larger political audience.   UStream is used by schools, families, and our service men and women.  UStream can be useful as a vehicle for students who are out of… Continue

Fresh from STI 08

Just got home from the last day of STI - Belfast 08.
Phew!

Awesome projects and participants this year, however, we STILL seem to not be hitting the Southern Maine market of teachers... Strange..

Now to start preparing for STI-North, only a few months away.
